About This Attraction
Rising to 3,200 meters above sea level, Mount Entoto offers breathtaking panoramic views of Addis Ababa and the surrounding highlands. Once the capital of Ethiopia under Emperor Menelik II before the founding of Addis Ababa, Entoto holds immense historical and spiritual significance.
The mountain is home to the Entoto Maryam Church, built by Emperor Menelik II in 1882, where he and Empress Taytu were crowned. The church features traditional Ethiopian Orthodox architecture and houses a small museum with imperial artifacts. Nearby, the octagonal Entoto Raguel Church stands as another testament to the area's religious importance.
The Entoto Natural Park, established in recent years, offers hiking trails through eucalyptus forests, picnic areas, and cultural exhibits. The fresh mountain air and stunning vistas make Entoto a perfect escape from the city's hustle—a place where history, nature, and spirituality converge.
